In the food pantry in Basingstoke, members can join without having to be referred and they can remain members for as long as they like, many food banks limit clients to 2-3 visits. The pantry does not insist that members regard help as a temporary solution.
If you are in need of help you can either be referred to the pantry in Basingstoke with a voucher by an education or healthcare professional which would entitle you to a 3-day food parcel, or if you find you need ongoing support you can join our pantry as a member for £3.50 a week which will entitle you to approx. £20 worth of food each week.
People who need ongoing help can register with the pantry for £3.50 a week which will provide them with approximately £20 worth of food. Food is categorised into Gold, Silver & Bronze. Members can take 3 gold items and 7 silver items in a weekly shop. The pantry will provide bronze items such as fruit and vegetables and sanitary pads for free (other items provided for free will be at the volunteer’s discretion and on a case by case basis).
Eligibility: Food voucher received, Family in receipt of EYPP, Child in receipt of 2-year funding, Child in receipt of Pupil Premium, In receipt of Job Seekers Allowance, Universal Credit, Income Support, Income-based Job Seekers Allowance.
Vouchers are distributed to doctors, healthcare professionals, schools and nurseries in Basingstoke (within a 3-mile radius) and if these professionals deem a family to be in need of emergency food or ongoing support they will issue a voucher. This then entitles the person/family to an emergency food parcel on their first visit which should last them around 3 days. Eligibility: Food voucher received.
The Pantry will provide 3 weeks of emergency food if the visitor falls under the following eligibility: In employment, on zero hours contract/minimum wage and has had an unexpected bill or demand for money leaving them and their family in food poverty. Those returning to work, benefits have stopped and have to work for a period of time before their first pay day. Financial crisis has led to food poverty. Long term sickness awaiting SSP. Awaiting benefits.
